We were doing the breakfast dishes around 9am this morning and heard a ruckus from the chickens. We had them in the auxiliary run. That is a fenced area of the run. It backs up to the woods. A fox was trying to get by the fence. It is 2x4" × 5' welded wire. Not much of a defense. The run 8x12 has hw cloth with buried skirt and is a pretty solid defense. Just added a camera to watch.

It was just dumb luck that we prevented a loss today. How are your defenses?

I have hardware cloth from top to bottom and on the ground out 2 ft. I have electric fencing all the way around and on the top two sides closest to trees and privacy fence. I did overlap a lot of the hardware cloth, so in multiple areas there is also exposed wire. That exposed wire worked in the gate area. Before I put up the electric fence something was trying to get its paws in there and got themselves bloodied up--there was blood and scratch marks on the wood post. I also have a german shepherd that has made his mission in life to keep all raccoons and oppossums up the trees on the other side of frnce. He does a really good job.
