Do you keep the baby chicks and mom with the main flock ore do you put them in a separate place. Also do you have the babies go off of layer feed because of the mother hen or can the mom eat the baby chick stuff?

I keep mine in the coop or shed, but separated by a wire fence for 1-2 weeks in order for the chicks to gain strength. Generally after 2 weeks they can run away enough from other hens.

I put everyone on a non medicated starter grower with a separate bowl of oyster shells for the calcium needs.

My broody hens are put in a separate coop, but it opens to the same run as the "big" coop. When Mom is ready (usually day 3) she will take baby chick down the ramp into the run with the other chickens in the flock. Normally the other chickens will leave to free range for the day but mom will stay behind with her chick(s) for about a week. I put chick food in the separate coop and it's fine for Mom hen to have that too. She needs the extra protein after sitting for so long. There is a feeder in the run she uses with all flock feed, she can eat that too. So, No, I don't separate them.

Mine hatched and raised right in same nest boxes everyone else lays in. Four weeks later (last night) they’re perched with the whole crew on the topmost perch.

Keeping her and the chicks in with everyone has been easy and enjoyable.
