Do you know who his mother is?

He was hatched earlier in the spring. My rooster is a blue laced red wyandotte. His mother is either a buff orpington or a blue plymouth. Can any of you figure out who the mother might be. Maybe by color or by shape. Thanks

I'm not a genetics person, but I would say Blue Plymouth Rock due to be not seeing much Buff in the feathers, and neither do I see any other signs of a Buff Orpington in the genes. Again, don't take much consideration into what I say when it comes to genes!

(Edit: Now I'm suspicious of those Buff feathers near the wing...)

That's what makes me wonder too.

I think I see quite a bit of silver in the feathers of this cockerel.

Blue Laced Red Wyandotte father with Buff Orpington mother would produce gold-based chicks with no silver. So the Buff Orpington cannot be the mother, which leaves the Blue Plymouth as the only remaining option. (It is fairly common for chickens that are all black or all blue to have the silver gene, but of course that is not obvious when they have blue or black all over.)

The yellow shade in the shoulder area is common in cockerels who inherit silver from one parent and gold from the other.
