I live miles down a very steep, narrow dirt road. It'd take a lot of effort just to get down here, even in a car. And it's a pretty inhospitable passageway in wintry weather.

But our mail is up on the highway. We've had mail stolen. We also had our recycling bin stolen - lol!
Oh wow such odd things to steal! And also how do you live there!?

Oh wow that does sound amazing! :love I don’t think I could do such a long road though lol idk
It's a real pain sometimes, not the length so much but the steep incline right before it meets the highway. When it gets icy, we can't make it up without chains. It's funny. The county keeps the highway salted to keep it from getting icy during snowstorms. If we can get to the highway, we're fine. But we have had to put chains on just to get from the house to the highway and then take them off once we reach the top of the hill. It's pretty ridiculous.

But it's soooooo pretty. I love our driveway. It's one of my fave things about our property:

Oh wow that does sound like a pain!! But wow it’s gorgeous! :love

as a result of the car theft back in september, we installed keyless keypad locks on all exterior doors, plus a CCTV system with 18 exterior cameras. takes the guess work out of locking everything up at night. i have it all on a schedule to lock all doors at 9pm just in case we forget.

we got rid of the keypad garage door opener and replaced them with thumbprint openers

a wrought iron driveway gate is being installed between stone pillars as part of our landscaping project in the spring.

I lock up my house at night or if I am away. I keep other stuff like ride-on mower and log splitter out of sight and not easily accessible.
I do have a dog with an impressive bark. I like to think he would protect me but in truth his Labrador personality would be asking for a treat or "are we going for a walk?".
My most disturbing experience was having my car stolen while I was at an evening class at college. Inside was my garage door opener and my address on insurance information. I was concerned because I didn't know how long my car was gone. Had they used the garage opener, they could have closed that door and had direct access into the house without being seen. Now I do not leave any identification in my car.
