Keep all my papers in my wallet with my drivers' license. Proof of ownership and insurance are small pieces of paper. If my daughter borrows my vehicle, I have a photocopy she keeps with her.
Worse case, to the best of my knowledge, here we have 48 hours to show up at the police station with any missing documentation. On the other hand, in case of an accident or emergency, I want someone to be able to know who I am.

i’ve got a few too many vehicles to do that. but that’s a good system.

I live in the NYC suburbs. Most crimes here are those of opportunity, so I lock everything, all the time. There are too many stories of running cars being stolen from in front of houses, houses being walked into, etc for me not to. My better half has a habit of not doing so, though, and I've woken up to a wide open back door more times than I care to.

Chickens are always locked, @MGG ! That I'm sure of!!!

Now that I am in a rural area, the main thefts here are from construction sites - whole loads of lumber, windows and flooring waiting to be installed, and especially tools.
Most people are putting up cameras and signs that it is monitored. I'm not sure how well that works especially if planned in advanced and takes place at night. The site nearest me has a camera but it is obvious so probably the first thing stolen.

I have to lock my coop and the door to the run.I have neighbors that feel like what is mine is theirs too. Before I started padlocking them I found the neighbors in them. They said, " Wanted to check out what all we had here." Padlocks went on that day.
