Do you need to worm if no signs are present?

Several people have told me that I need to worm my hens before they start laying.  I have been trying to figure out if this is true or not.

They show no signs of worms however will be starting to lay in the next month.

Don't worm unless they have worms. Take a poo sample and ask your vet to do a faecal egg test. That will determine any parasite eggs present and also the level of infection if any. If they are clear there is no need to worm them.:)

Wow. Bad enough to see them when they come out of the cats. At least that's not in my food supply chain!

yep we deal with agricultural, so mostly sheep, cattle etc. although I will be checking my own chooks poop on Monday lol! Never looked at chicken parasites before and was hoping someone else was going to do it but apparently this is an ideal 'training' opportunity for me haha, fingers crossed they are worm free

A botany professor once told me grimly, "Never have sushi with a parasitologist."
But I'll bet you have lots of fun messing with people when you want!

Hahaha that is so true especially with my teenage daughter when her friends come round...funny enough she never misbehaves lol!

Oh fun with teenagers! Tried to get a friend to put cooked spaghetti in her daughter's cat's litterbox but she wouldn't do it :(
