I grew up saying "pop" in the mid-west, but here in the South we say "drink" or simply Mt. Dew, Pepsi, Coke etc.
Maybe that is where I get pop from, my dad was from Wisconsin. or Wisk-cahun-sen. But I grew up in Western Washington. A neighbor lady grew up in E. WA, and she would always say Worshington.

I feel so special and unique with my "Soda pop".

I'm afraid thought that it is just a result from not being native english/American and having this need to speak more "perfect English" non stop. I tend to do that too with going into British English sounding English because that is seen as "fancy/high class". But just like y'all I swear like a sailor ofcourse is my mothertongue and it is just pop or soda if noone is listening because I'm lazy.
