Do you set guidelines when you sell....

If I sell a bird, it is free to go to it's new home and be eaten or culled at a later date as the new owners see fit. It is no longer my bird to say what will happen to it. That said, if I am too worried about the fate of a particular bird and it no longer fills it's role, I put it on my own table.

I dont remember what kind of eggs it was but I remember a couple weeks ago seeing an add on creigslist for hatching eggs for sale but you had to provide a good pet home for the chicks and not eat them..What!

thats just crazy IMHO

I do see that a LOT with rabbits.

ETA: I posted a free silkie roo on creigslist last month, I got an email from a "poultry rescue" that wanted to drive up 2 hours to my place so he could live a natural life at their rescue untile a suitable home was found for him. They were willing to take him in so he did not end up dinner. I had already given him away though.

I look at it like this - if I bought anything I would not wish for the person who sold it to me to dictate what I am to do with it - so I would not do that to someone else.

Would you want to purchase, say... a house and have the previous owner come in once a week to inspect your bathrooms to make sure you were cleaning to their standards?

If I sell a bird, it is up to whomever bought it to decide what to do with it. I can hope that they give it a good life before culling or selling it to someone else - but I leave such things up to Greater Powers than myself. It simply does not fall under my area of "control".

No, I don't. I'm pretty careful about who I sell to now, though. I sell hatching eggs here sometimes, but locally I only give or sell to a few select people. I'm pretty careful about who gets my babies and have become even more so after I've seen the conditions some of them that I gave away last year ended up in. :-( I know some people that will never own birds from my flock again, as long as I have any say in it.

I'd honestly prefer they be eaten then neglected or abused.

When giving away or selling dogs/cats--my only request is----if they decide the animal is not healthy, needed, wanted or doesn't fit with there family--they should return the animal to me!

I feel like that is there 'out' and they won't end up abandoning them!

When we have adopted animals, I have never had to have a home check after they speak to my vet---they forego it!

To stick up for these people, it is their choice, whether it be a medical condition that causes these people to respond this way, or just eccentricities, we should not be judging them.
If someone sells a bird, I do agree, it is the buyers choice, but... some folks cannot stand the thought of their critters meet a poor end. Also, there are many people that keep animals way past their time instead of choosing euthanasia, bless them, I can't, I believe in not allowing a critter suffer- chicken, cow, horse, dog, cat, we all have our kinship with our pets.

I have a family member that cannot handle watching movies where animals are hurt, fully aware that even cartoons are not real, but cannot bear the thought of mowing the lawn from the insects and frogs that are living there.

So either way, live and let live guys. Topics like this tend to hurt feelings of those that are as they are with their animals. Be Kind.
