Do you still eat chicken?

No. I'm a semi-vegetarian. I quit eating meat for the most part when 17 years ago I found out the pet sheep we'd kept weren't that kind of pet. I'll indulge in the occasional deviled egg, but something really darastic would have to happen for me to eat my birds. I heard that I had a run-in with a Chik-fil-A tent outside of a Willie Nelson concert back in 2004, but I'm not admitting to anything. What happens in Texas, stays in Texas.

I stopped eating chicken when I got mine. It just didn't feel "right" somehow.

I stopped eating meat about a month ago,but it had nothing to do with having chickens as pets. Read the JOY book and learned more about CAFOs. I would have no issue with eating our own hens, but the kids won't let me *go there*.....so I eat no meat.

Ever since I learned more about how the commercial meat chicken industry keeps its birds (and the whole breeding to grow in 6-8 weeks thing), I haven't been able to bring myself to eat commercial chicken - and its been several years. Now the only chicken I eat are the ones I raise and process myself.

Some of the replies are pretty comical :)

I was sure I'd still eat chicken, I'd just had so many people ask me the same question that I thought hhhmmmmm am I missing something?

I still eat chicken. I actually find it easier to eat my own birds because I raised them until the end and did all the dirty work myself. With birds from the store you never really know...

Nope, I'm vegetarian and don't like eggs, either. I have our chickens for pest control (and they're humorous to watch). I share the eggs with friends or my DH eats them. After taking care of a prolapsed vent, I don't think I could ever even consider eating chicken. That was disgusting! :p And I agree with the earlier post about the commercial growers....that's disgusting! I feel that anyone who processes meat themselves and can handle killing it more than deserves to eat it. We have become so disconnected from where our food comes from. My kids and I are growing wheat and peanuts this year just to see how they grow.
