Yup, I agree with you........however, I've got a bunch of roosters so I have an opportunity to see different fellas interacting with the young 'uns and displaying very different behaviors. I've got one little man that is currently behaving pretty rough with one of his "teenage" boys. Up until yesterday I hadn't seen any problem, but yesterday there was a torn comb. Guess, it's time to split them up. He's been a very good father up until just recently and my guess is "Junior" made a try for one of the girls. That would be a big NO NO in George's run.
The other end of the gamut is Beau, who I think is maybe the ultimate GOOD father. He has one of his teenagers in with him and I've witnessed what appears to be lessons in amour. Beau is not only tolerant but encouraging of "Juniors" advances with the girls. I've got eggs from this run and I have no idea who the sire is. It's imperative that I get these guys split up so I can start to AI, then I'll know for sure.
Beau (blue bantam cochin) is the best rooster I've ever had, George (birchen bantam cochin) it seems is taking time to mature and mellow out, but he's getting there.
I LOVE a good roo, but I have no use for a bad one, i.e., I've got a cuckoo maran roo that is walking a VERY thin line.
