Do you think I need to get rid of all my chickens?

Hi guys, I have salmonella for the second time in 3 or 4 months. I know my chickens are giving it to me even thought I wash my hands/arms every time after I leave the coop. Last time I had salmonella I was sick and throwing up for 2 weeks. So I'm wondering if I should get rid of my chickens. What do you think? Or do think if I only keep 1 or 2 there would be less chance of getting it? Thanks!

ETA: There is a chicken coop for sale that is 6 feet long and three feet wide. If I can keep 2 chickens and my pair of geese I think I will buy it and turn the coop I have now into a house for my dogs. What do you think?

If your hens are tested positive for salmonella, then you would either get rid of them OR cook your eggs WELL DONE!

Or did you buy those store bought eggs? Or eaten somewhere else that has eggs in them?

Chickens are only one source of salmonella. There are many others. Some people are more prone to catching it than others. If I were you I would either rehome the chickens or get someone else to care for them and see what happens. However, if you wash carefully each time after handling the chickens I wonder if you are getting salmonella from them. It might pay you to have some fecal tests run to see if your chickens do indeed carry salmonella. They may not. Then you need to determine what your source of infection is. It may even be a family member.

Or the salad from the supermarket.

I am positive that I am getting it from them. I dont have any other animals that have it. I have diabetes so I have a very weak immune system so I get sick really easy.

ETA: EweSheep: I dont eat salad, I wish I liked it though.

I agree- get your chickens tested to see if they are the source. You can get salmonella from many sources, including produce. Don't be so quick to assume it is the chickens.
