Do You Think These Chickens Are Show Quality?

your new hampshire may do well at a county fair, however it would have a hard time placing at an apa show. they look like very healthy pretty birds. one of my favorite hens is a hatchery quality new hampshireish hen. She catches snakes

With all being said. If showing is something you would like to get into, I would suggest trying to find one close to you and go and look at all the birds. Look at ones like yours and also there are a lot of breeders there who are willing to sell some of their stock.

I Am 24 Yrs Old And Just Wanted To See If I Have Enything Special Out Of My Egg Layers...i Currently Have 24 Eggs In The Incubator Off The Nh Rooster And Hens (black Aus, Golden Comet, White Rock, Sussex, Rhode Island And Barred Rock) So I Truly Want Meat And Eggs But I Love Them......dearly.....i Cannot Wait For The Babies...also I Ordered A "heavy Breed Special" From Red Top Hatchery....maybe I'll Get Something There????? Thanks For The Support!

I think they look beautiful, healthy, and even more importantly, happy! Keep up the good work! SQ is not the most important thing in the world. Loving, and enjoying your chickens is. Give 'em all a blue ribbon from me.

You have very nice birds and they sure look like you keep them in very good condition. I agree with some others if you are truly interested in showing, do some research, find a breed you like and begin to connect with breeders that can and will help you. I have given some very nice quality birds to 4-H kids in the past, just to help them understand what a breed should really look like. After only a few years in this area some kids are showing up at the county fairs with birds that actually represent the breed.. It would be really great if you could get yourself educated on the standard for the breeds that you desire to show. No harm in taking your birds to a 4-H show, but you will learn so much more if you do a little reading and researching breeeds. Good luck

The red hen (new hampshire?)...has blue legs...they are supposed to be yellow......the rooster with the SL Wyandotte is an EE...Pea comb and willow colored legs.....Sorry....nice birds though...but not show quality

There's no reason to be discouraged. You asked if they were show quality birds and we answered you honestly.

As others have said, if you're interested in showing do some research and reading and then find a breeder with the breeds you're interested in. The odds of getting a show quality bird from a hatchery are pretty slim.....can happen, but rarely does.

There is nothing wrong with birds that aren't show quality......they will lay you a lot of eggs and can be very pretty too. If you like them that's all that counts in the end.

Yup none of my chickens are show quality but they are beautiful in my eyes. Each one has it's own personality and they come running to me even if I don't have the treat bucket in my hand (although I am sure they are hoping I am going to the treat bucket) Love my chickens and I see a blue ribbon on every one in my mind!
