Do you use bags of water against houseflies?

That would be me, also. I regularly bang my head underneath the hummingbird feeder & get sticky sugar water all in my hair!

What about the vanilla car things? anybody try those? I heard those work, but never tried them.

laurajean,
''This effect is responsible for a number of optical illusions, such as mirages''
For some reason, I am thinking optical illusion,I read migraines. If it gave flies migraines, that would keep them away. It' keep me away.
I use pyrethrin spray. organic, safe and it keeps the flies away until it rains.

Reading the subject line before entering this thread, I had a mental image of a sort of redneck water balloon fight against flies in flight. Or maybe, I thought, somebody waits until the flies land on a wall, and the thrower has a great aim.... Sounds fun on a hot summer day, but how effective would that be?

I use the hanging fly sticks, and another nifty similar product in the shape od a squat cylinder with several "vanes" to provide more sticky surface space, and therefore more insects caught.

They work REALLY well.

The pennies are supposed to add to the visual disturbance somehow. I've also heard of adding a sliver of aluminum foil.

I have a bunch of young chicks in one coop that occupy themselves for hours trying to catch the flies.
