I was thinking of buying one of these five dollar pools for the chickens to cool off and drink water in this heat. I live in Mississippi and it’s in the 90s . Do You think this is a good idea or will the pool leak weird chemicals into their water ? Or does that even matter ? On the other hand my chicken waterer doesn’t say anything about being BPA free so maybe could be doing that too? Am I being silly to worry about this ? Or do you have to be really particular about what goes into a egg-laying chickens? I have three sweet hens.

Sorry about that title I meant do you worry not Do you worried. Talk to text messes me up all the time .

I have three sweet hens also. I don't think you should be too worried because if they are kid pools they shouldn't be leaking chemicals plus my chickens drink out of large 3 dollar plastic dog bowls so I think you are fine. Just wondering what chicken breeds do you have

I have a barred rock and two leghorns, to breed that tolerate heat pretty well I’ve read.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. During the summer I usually put extra water out in planter saucers, the clay ones, and chickens seem fine with that.

Most of the time my chickens like to drink water out of mud puddles and dripping off a fence, so they're not choosy!

Yeah, Leghorns are more heat tolerant than other breeds but heat can still affect them. I have two white leghorns and one light brown leghorn

Just get a large dog bowl in my opinion. They are plastic and are less than 5 dollars IMG_2945.JPG My chicken loves to get its feet wet to cool it down. You want to make sure whatever you give your chickens, its not deep enough to submerge most of the feathers because that will just over heat them because there will be no airflow between the feathers.

I didn’t know that. So if my chickens get wet in the rain could that also cause them to overheat when the rain stops and it gets hot again? we have a lot of short afternoon showers but Then it’s just as hot again.

Yeah I've read that multiple places but rain doesn't necessarily mean it submerges the feathers I don't think its the same. Because when it rains the water sort of falls off of them but if they submerge themselves in water it gets in between their feathers and there is no airflow
