Tonight, my 2 week old chicks were interested in my hand. (After all, it is the hand that feeds and waters them).
So i tried something. I left my hand there for a little bit, wiggled my fingers so they knew it would move... and when they would walk up and stand there, I would gently rub their chest with my finger... and I could even rub their neck to their chin!!! Omg it was toooooooooooo cute!!

One was a buff orp pullet, the other a leghorn pullet. (They were sexed, lets see if that holds true).

Here is a pic of one of the super calm ones.

Do your babies stand there and let you pet them? Without being picked up?????

Nope. Mine are about 7.5 weeks old and have never been a fan of being petted. On rare occasion I can get one to let me reach out and stroke it's back, but mostly as soon as I raise my hand over the top of them, they freak and run. We can and do chase them down and hold them 2 or 3 times a day, and lately they don't run as fast or freak as bad when we pick them up, but they still don't like it very much. I read on here all the time about birds that "jump up in laps" or fly up on the shoulders and walk around with the owners, but none of mine are inclined to do that. Enjoy it!

Mine do, of course the little roo's have to peck first to see if it's edible, but then they let me pet them. I always can just about tell how many roo's I have that way

Ours do that all the time. We start with them when they are about a day old. By the time they are a week old they are jumping into our hands and wanting to be played with.

Only a couple of them, but I got them when they were a bit older. They didnt have as much human attention than I would have given them on the first several days. I think there would be two who would close their eyes and let me pet them, but once they opened their eyes, they were gone in a flash.lol
Your little chicks must love you very much!

It shocks me because I haven't had much time for them. Both of my human kids have been really really sick for a week... So when my human kids lay down to sleep, I usually watch the chicks play for a minute or 2. Then i'm off to bed. I was soooo happy that they came up to me and let me pet them. The worries and fears of the day washed away. They are like therapy....

I do that too, they love to check out my ring and also become very interested and gather round when I tap something with my fingernail. I would say 4 out of 12 right now let me pet them (they are almost a week old) but as soon as the hand goes out to grab them most take off!

Oh cool! Must be the "explorer" age they are going through!!! I used to have some that were 7 weeks old and any chance they got, they were on my shoulder. I never spent alot of time with them. I must look like a good solid ROOST!
