Do your ducks obey requests?

Man, y'all have some intelligent, well-behaved ducks!! Maybe I should've put more effort into training them when they were young. I can usually get their attention if I shake some lettuce around, but they don't respond to much else if they're out playing, lol. I'm not saying they've never listened to anything I've said before, of course, but I've never been able to basically just ask them to get out of the creek and they actually do it - I was amazed, lol.

Many of my Ducks were not raised by me. I have two breeding groups that free range together and all I say is bed time and they all get up and head back to their proper pens. It's consistency and not chasing them in.

I bet if you bought meal worms or something else they really love and used it only for getting them home before dark you'd get their attention. Start working on it during the day calling them and rewarding them they love treats and I think it wouldn't take long to train them even now. Mine love meal worms dog food and 6 way scratch so I mix it up in a bowl shake and wa la duckies at my feet.

I bought mealworms once years ago and tried a few times but don't remember anybody being all that interested, oddly. The newer ones haven't tried them I bet though.
After they'd been out a while today I sat on the creek bank with the some lettuce and everyone but the Golden Girls just gave me side eye and walked by, lol. It's like if they're out they just don't care much about treats - they'd rather be out. In their defense, I often work fairly long days and sometimes they don't get to go play much.
I'll get some more mealworms and give them another shot - Golden Girls might eat them and convince everybody else how yummy they are, haha.
