Ok so I have 5 hens and I'm looking for a rooster . I know there many out there but which rooster is the most docile and not to big that gonna chase me out of my back yard lol ?

The first thing to know is that it is the individual, not the breed. From what I've heard buff oprington roosters are nice. My current roos are black sex link, but I picked the best of the bunch, not all are good. You aren't in SE Pennsylvania, are you? :p I got the nicest cockerel I've ever seen, but He's a mutt. In the end i would get a rooster breed known for being nice but have a backup plan in case he turns out mean. Good Luck!

Oriental gamefowl have been selectively bred for thousands of years for ease of human handling. Very rare in any of those breeds that you would find a male that displays human aggression. Downside is that they won't tolerate other adult males, but you don't need other adult males. One will do you, they can easily live twenty years.

Other "breeds" or rather strains of hatchery leghorn hybrids have been selectively bred for color and fluffiness, so it's a big question mark on temperament.

First question is ask your self why you want a roo. For protection for your girls, breeding, or just to have , if you want it for protection because your girls freerange all day you do want to guy that is going to be a little feisty to ward off predators but good enough so he doesn’t chase you around the yard like you say sorta a coin toss up. Do keep in n mind any rooster no matter breed can be aggressive. I have had Roos that are known to be a aggressive breed be one of the sweetest Roos ever. I can only answer this from experience. I have A Brahma Roo and he is very sweet but a huge boy so he is with Brahma girls. I also have Cochins super sweet but mine are Huge and I don’t recommend them for a flock of smaller hens. If you had Cochin girls that would be your guy. I have a silkie boy. Super sweet great with the girls and chicks also my serama boys are a great choice. I have had in the past a few Polish and all but 1 were great. Also what ever you choose make sure you have enough girls for you boy to keep him happy and the girls.
