Come out to feed the cats some canned food and one of em is inspecting something and jumping a foot in the air for seemingly no reason. I go to check it out. Hear something moving in the leaf litter. Move the gallon jug of oil that's half tipped over. And there it is readying for a strike and the cat keeps trying to get a closer look. :idunno

I yell for my brother, because that's what you do, you share the find before you dispatch it. You do this to confirm, yup that is a copperhead. Felt bad for killing it but it was a danger to the animals, people and kids around here so it was off with his head.

I "generally" let snakes do their thing. However, I DO have limits/rules.
If it's venomous, I leave him be, UNLESS he's in my living/walking area-then he's dead. If a danger to me, family, pets-he's dead. We can't kill every snake we see, and some people do. I try to live in harmony with my surrounding, if he's venomous and can cause problems he's dead. I don't try to relocate etc....that will get me bit. I take a hard line on dangers.

This! There are more of him out there not endangering me, my family and my pets.

I believe its breeding season also, I'll have to watch out for babies and more juveniles.
