Alright - I know it’s a long shot and that’s fine but.. my BBW turkey got stomped/trampled/rolled by a cow on Thursday. He got up and walked afterwards, he’s been eating and drinking. But, starting Friday, he doesn’t want to walk, I figured he was sore which is to be expected but now when he stands, his hips are crooked, the right is higher than the left. I’ve called the vets in the area that make house calls and everybody is booked and can’t come.

I’m thinking the right is possibly out of socket.. any tips of getting them back in alignment? Other tips to get him through this? I’m willing to do whatever it takes and if I can’t get a vet out here this week, I’ll figure out how to safely get him in to one but he’s a BIG guy and I don’t want to hurt him worse or stress him more than I have to.

I managed to get one - his right hip is higher than his left and I think the hip is dislocated. He can bear weight but can’t walk.

I have a vet appt tomorrow for xrays

You can try making a sling that will allow its feet to just barely touch the ground but keeps the weight off of its legs.

Would that help anything long term? I’ve made a chicken sling before but it didn’t end up helping..

I just don’t know what to do. My head tells me a huge turkey can’t live without working legs and I need to just call it but I love this stupid bird

It has helped others in the past but it does take a long time for the joint to heal. You can also try giving Vitamin B Complex made at the rate of one half tablet dissolved in one gallon of water. It should be the only source of water and should be made fresh daily.

It is surprising what turkeys can recover from if they aren't broad breasted turkeys.

He is a white broad breasted 😭😭

You can still try but he is not expected to have a long life.
He’s just a baby - he will be a year in March. He free ranges, gets around really well (before this) but I know.. I know they’re not meant to live long but he’s just turned out to be the best boy.
