Dodgy incubator temperature

I have my new eggs in the incubator, my incubator temp was at 38 degrees but my thermometer I put inside the incubator read 34 so I put it up to 39.5 (highest it will go) and the thermometer is at 35.5 I don't know what to do the incubator isn't placed anywhere cold or exposed to draughts or anything I'm baffled!!!

The humidity is also way off!! I had it set to 50 which read 80 on my thermometer so it's now at 35 and is reading 58 on the thermometer, can anybody help?

Can you wrap it in towels, or a blanket while leaving the vents unobstructed?

I've covered what I can with towels and there's been no change in temperature for the last half hour :/ I might buy another thermometer to double check but my last eggs didn't hatch and I'm presuming this is why
