Does a rooster stop mating with hens that have stopped laying?

I have 4 red sex links that have pretty much stopped laying. I also have 3 other younger hens that lay most days. Those hens show signs of over mating (worn off feathers on back).
I'm wondering if the rooster has stopped mating the older hens and is spending more time attending to the remaining three.

Very possible, hens that aren't laying due to broodiness, molting or other reasons generally don't mate.
