Hello BYCers! I have a silkie pullet that was hatched August 2019, so that makes her 7 months old. She was laying very well for about 2 months and spent quite a bit of time in her preferred nesting box. I figured she just took a long time to lay. She has gone broody (surprise! surprise! Hahaha! Just kidding) and is on a pair of small plastic eggs (actually exact size of her eggs) from one of my daughters cooking sets. This is my first experience with this. I knew that silkies are known for being broody, but I wasn't expecting it at this young age. I've tried to take her out of the nest every time I am with her and it's not working. I know that I will have to put her in a wire dog crate, that's off the ground, to allow for air to move under her, let her hatch some eggs or sneak some day old chicks under her in the middle of the night. If I can find some, preferably day old splash silkies, what are the chances of her successfully brooding at her age? I know that so many things can go wrong and that's with any broody bird, but I'm wondering about a pullet of this age. If I get her some day old chicks, I will put her in a safe separate enclosure to give the chicks the best chance. Thank you for your time
