We use it a lot.

Just remember that it isn't designed to be a forum for ASKING for stuff. Sometimes people get carried away and there is nothing but "WANTED" ads --for expensive stuff, too!-- and the moderators have to remind everyone again and again that it's about sharing stuff that would otherwise get thrown away, not a personal "wish list". In our area you are required to have a balance of "OFFERED" ads if you want to place a "WANTED" ad.

Anyway we gave away some excellent commercial washer/dryers that my mom gave us that we couldn't use, and books, and computer peripherals, and other stuff. We were given a deep freezer and some paving stones. It's definitely worth looking at every morning, especially if you're builind a coop... you could get LOTS of scrap materials that way!

It's also nice because when you go to pick stuff up you meet the people and connect more with your community. It feels good to be helping each other out!

Yep, We have it here too, I browse it all the time. Just last week I was able to get a 14 inch TV, with remote, for my guest room....and a few days later, got a 8x10 screened room, Christmas deco for outside, and 2 metal plant stands! We unloaded an upright freezer.( wish I would have kept it now,LOL) and several things left from a yard sale.
Craigs list is great too! Try looking for wood...windows..all sorts of stuff for building that next coop!

We do. I'm on two local lists. We've gotten rid of stuff that was too good to throw away. We just got a bunch of lumber for our new coop plus we once got two red star pullets!

We are on it....I've used it one time...from which came a great blessing. We were given an upright freezer for our church fellowship hall...we needed a freezer for the Angelfood Ministry our church began. What a blessing! It was free, I only had to clean it out...no bad food, just dust from being stored!

we have it here in indiana and i don't use it much but i did use here while back for the first time and was really surprised on how many people answered .... so i say what the heck try it and see you never know some one may have moved into and house where one had been left in the garage and they do not know what to do with it and bingo there you go ..... yeah! I think it is a wonderful site. And Seachick I do agree with you that its about giving stuff. And it was getting kinda ridiculous around christmas time. But.....it gave me a good incentive to do a good cleaning out of my house and giving stuff to people who need it. It is a good feeling. I gave away a lot of stuff that I had sitting around the house for years collecting dust.

But I am now not afraid to ask for things if I really need tham. and I try to limit that too.

When I said I was going to ask for an incubator I was more kidding thinking that would not happen. Funny, I asked and someone offered me 2, I nearly dropped to the floor. I dont know if they work or not but so what? With 2 I should be able to get parts for one. well i just couldnt believe it!!!! I will pick them up either today or tommorrow
