I haven't experienced that with my RSLs myself, so who knows. I don't provide artificial light and let them rest when it is due. It's the most you can do. My RSLs are nearing 3 years currently and I hope they live past that.

Not all sex links drop dead at 2.
I have several that are 5 and had leghorns (very high production breed) that lived 7+ years.

It’s true…not all die that early. But they are bred to be disposable. Factory farms want them to pump out a ton of eggs as fast as they can and then dispose of them.
