For me bulk feed right now is about $18/cwt. if I buy the same amount by the bag it is $22/cwt, so it really helps to buy in bulk. It adds up really quickly!

I live in Tn any ideas on where to source bulk feeds? When I first started hatching in January I couldn't hatch them fast enough. I don't know why but people were buying chicks then. Hopefully they will this winter too but who knows with feed prices. Though at the feed store they are telling me that at harvest time prices will come down a little bit, at least a little locally. I am starting to buy bulk now to save some money, especially for winter
THANKS NEVER CHECKED THEREYou should have a local feed mill. That's where I get mine.it is usually a co-op.
Quote: I don't think he means THE CO-OP he means they are a group of farmers that own a mill. The feed mills I know are family owned. I have been driving almost 100 miles round trip to get my feed. The local feed mill does not mix their own chicken feed.
What feed recipe do you use for your chooks, Donna?
~ Aspen
Awesome! thanks sugarWell, I use 2 scoops of tuckers layer feed, 2 scoops of mill feed 1 scoop of spent barley and 1/2 scoop of scratch, some DE and calcium.... how is that?![]()
for pullets, 2 scoop of feed 1 scoop of spent barley and some DE. I don't mix the chick starter.
The barley is HIGH protein.... like 30% so I use some scratch to tone it down.
THANKS I will see what I can find out in my area.I don't think he means THE CO-OP he means they are a group of farmers that own a mill. The feed mills I know are family owned. I have been driving almost 100 miles round trip to get my feed. The local feed mill does not mix their own chicken feed.
