Does anyone bathe a chicken?

I think it was Thursday that I bathed my new pullet.

She's supposed to be white, but when I got her it was clear that she had a dirt bath before being put in the box.

So I got some baby shampoo, put her in the dog kennel, and carried her into the house and into the bathroom. Placed her in the tub, slid the sliding doors closed, and washed her down with the shampoo and the extendable shower head. I then held a hairdryer to her set to low, which she really loved (she would whine every time I put the hairdryer down to do something else).

When she finally dried 100%, I noticed the black areas that I thought were poop stains... were actually black markings. Plus half of her 'white' feathers, and her head and neck feathers, are a light tan. Shoddy bathing skills, or her natural colour... I don't know.

Kids and I bathed the silkies when we took them to the fair. I think they actually liked it. One fell asleep in the bath.

I put warm water in a bucket and washed them with dawn soap. Rinsed and repeated and then wrapped them up in a towel then blow dried them until dry. They then spent a bit of time in the bathroom as I didn't want them to get chilled outside before going to the pet carrier hotel.

Have yet to bathe anyone else but I am sure if any of them were to go to a show they too would get a spa day.

I use warm water in my deep sink and dawn dish soap because it will kill bugs. I get them wet, lather them up - set for 5 minutes. rinse them off and off they go to the bathroom for a warm blow dry - they seem to enjoy the experience even the blow dry.
