I have Silver Fox and they are really awesome rabbits. Excellent Mommas and great temperaments. I do cull for temperament though, but for the most part I don't need to.
I usually handle mine, but I am not in there all day everyday, lol I did find that litters that are handled as young kits (like still in the nestbox) do tend to be friendlier than those that are not.
Sometimes does will get snarky if they are hormonal and need bred. I don't tolerate bucks that are mentally unstable. *Usually*. I have one that is just stunning, has fabulous fur, size and makes lovely babies. He is perfectly fine in the cage, but I can't do a thing with him. I named him Lohan, because if you're pretty you get to do what you want.
He doesn't bite, he just freaks if you try to take him out and handle him.
You'll need to give the buns some time to adjust to their new surroundings, treats help! Remember that to them a cage is their den/burrow and they feel safe in there. Try not to chase the bun all over the cage. I have a friend who bought a trio from me like four years ago, and her buck escaped like the first day, she said it took her almost a year to win him over (and he was fine here, lol) Try to be confident in your handling, I swear they can smell fear. I've gone to friends houses and had no issues with rabbits they couldn't do a thing with!
There are a lot of breeders in CA. There is a yahoo group for the West Coast and the club is on Facebook too.
