Does anyone else get laughed at for

That's unusual? My neigbors have known me long enough not to be surprised at anything I do
Last summer I was fishing in my kayak, and was heard to ask the Great Blue Heron how the fishing was for him. New neighbor was told I was mostly harmless, just don't mess with my critters. They were behind me on a dock.
I bet your chickens liked the bread!

OMG! I am the queen of scraping plates! I work at a retirement apartment complex as the relief cook...the whole group scrapes their plates after lunch into a bucket that I bring just for the purpose! I think it brings back memories for a lot of the people that live there; many are old farmers themselves!
I used to get scraps from the produce department of our store. Then they said it was "illegal" to give me those scraps for my horses,, goats, pigs and chickens! Those were the BEST scraps! Really nice apples with a little bruise etc. I miss that and so do my critters! Terri O

I am so glad I am not the only person who feels like it is shameful to let food go in the trash that someone or something will enjoy eating. It was too funny today when my father stopped by my house for a dozen eggs to take to my grandmother and I took him a dozen and half earlier today. I started to ask him wasn't my saving the scraps worth it but I just told him to save egg cartons for me

. I am seriously thinking about selling my eggs since I am getting more than we can eat now. I have about three dozen eggs in my fridge right now and will have more in the morning. Love my chickens.

I started giving mine scraps at about 8 weeks. I would cut up carrots or lettuce in small pieces for them. Now at 7 months old I only cut up the big scraps like pieces of meat or heads of cabbage. I do this mostly so they dont have to fight to get over their treats!

I'm glad that I am not the only one who thought maybe the chickens would like some entertainment. My daughter and I went to the pet store the other day and bout a couple of bird toys for our new pullets (8 days old today - Thursday). While we were waiting to pay I turned to my daughter and commented that, " I hope the chickens like their new toys", and the cashier just looked at me quite strangely. My mother was with us and she just thought it was the funniest thing that I would buy toys for chickens. I figured that any type of stimulation is good, and as long as it isn't harmful, why not let them have fun. As far as leftovers, I always take leftovers home for my 4 dogs, and I will also be happy to share with my chicks. At least the food isn't going to waste...right?

i bring home pretty much everything. my family has gotten used to it over the years, i guess. i just can't stand to think of all that food going into trash bags when it could go into my compost pile. we're all organic at the farm, but when we eat out with friends and family we make exceptions since the organic restaurants around here are few and far between. non-organic food goes straight to the compost (we even compost meat), but organic stuff all goes into the animals.

this afternoon the girls are getting salmon and green beans, their favorites!

Curious... Is there any kind of food they can't have. We only do chicken feed besides all the bug's my kids find and put in their pen, grass they pull ect.... I'm never sure what is ok for them to have...
