Does anyone else have a Quaker Parrot?

I have a Quaker parrot who is about 4 years old ( give or take a year ), I have only had her with me for little over a year, she came from a very abusive him where the guy would cut her wings to close making them bleed, hit her in the head which broke the tip of her beak, yell at her and so on... now she totally HATES ALL MEN even my hubby who has tried for a year to make friends but after getting bite several times they have come to a truss he leaves her alone she stops biting him !!
The problem I am having with her is she has begun biting herself she will grab the top part of wing ( i guess the shoulder area ) hold on and make all kinds of noise twist her body around like she is fighting with it - she has not hurt herself - no blood or anything not pulling out feathers or any thing like that, she does not do it all the time once in awhile.

she has a huge parrot cage, toys,plenty of food,water - and is let out of cage to play what could make her do this??

The best thing you can do is just keep doing what you're doing. Just love love love her, keep her cage clean, give her plenty of time out of the cage. Be as affectionate as she will allow and always try to devote a little time to playing directly with her each day.

She may always hate guys, especially given the awful situation you saved her from. My blue-fronted amazon, who has lived in the lap of luxury with me as her devoted servant since the day she weaned, doesn't like girls. She just won't like them no matter how sweet they are to her. When girls talk to her, the higher, softer and sweeter the voice, the more enraged she gets, LOL. Sorry for your hubby, but this just may be one love affair he won't get to be a part of. Of course, if he is excruciatingly sweet and gentle with her, and takes part in feeding her, cleaning her cage, etc., she may learn to tolerate him and like him just fine.

She may just be playing with the grabbing the scapulars thing she does. If she isn't mutilating her feathers, I wouldn't worry about it. Does she bathe much? Usually birds who bathe a lot have healthier feathers and are less likely to start itching, picking, etc. But this is probably just her little game.

From what I can tell from the pic, she looks likes a happy healthy gal. She's very lucky to have you as I'm sure you are her!

other than biting herself and sometimes getting really load when she is " talking" she is a great bird very funny to sit and listen to the things she says so far she says

COME HERE , GOOD BOY, GOOD GIRL, PRETTY BIRD, PEEK A BOO, WHAT, THANK YOU, OWW,
she also whines like a puppy she is a real trip to have around. I guess I have plenty of years with her to teach her some more things to say !!

Well Mark I would love it if Jeff ( my hubby) could clean or help feed her but Pollie will not even let him touch her cage she gets very angry and will beat the crap out of toys and if he tries to open her cage door she will bite him the second he touches it - so I fear they will never ever come to agree on any thing he has given her treats only while she is caged and that still dont help.
I do love having her around she is good company and talks often sometimes to the " shadow bird" that lives on the wall behind her cage.
She has gotten better with spending time with me - before I had to be very careful while playing with her till she got used to me but now while holding her she tries to " feed "me ( I have to keep telling her no thanks )
She loves to take baths on really hot days I put a bowl of water in the bottom of her cage so she can bathe whenever she wants and sometimes I take her into the bathroom where I have a shower head with the mist spray she loves to walk around the bottom of the tube playing in the spray she is a very spoild bird !!!

I can tell she's spoiled! As she should be! Pollie's a real cutie. She may mellow over the years with Jeff. Otherwise, he'll just have to let her be Mama's bird

Pollie loves being outside while in her cage she likes to yell at the birds in the trees, I was wondering about builing her a perment outside cage for the warmer months- any idea and how to build one??? and if she stays outside would this make her "wild" where she does not let me hold her? I would still spend time with her outside or should I only but her out for a few hours everyday bring her in at night?
