So, we have a fair few chickens. Last week we came back from auction with a box of chicks from a few different breeds, one being Pomish Poland I had never encountered them before and was amazed by their crazy 70’s hair do. I have since discovered their amazing personalities. While all our chickens have different personalities these are completely different and i will go as far as saying one in particular has become a real buddy! Such an amazing little dude! Or dudette? As i’m not sure how to sex them? They are about a month old.

We have 3 polish. So far getting along with the others, is in with some millefleurs and brahma’s at the mo. Don’t think i will put them in with my sussex as so much smaller than them. Thanks for the advice-didnt realise chickens would bully others for their hair-do’s

Sometimes they are fine and other times they get targeted. My birds are free range and have lots of room these days, so the risk is lower. Under confinement it can be worse. Keeping them with gentle breeds is definitely a good idea.

I also keep my polish trimmed if necessary so they can see better, the laced varieties seem to need it more than the white crested varieties. It is definitely something to keep in mind when keeping polish.

They definitely have a different personality. They also sometimes need management and help during molts as they can't preen their crests, and you need to be vigilant watching for external parasites sometimes. Some of my most memorable chickens have been polish.

Excellent advice, i can see that a little trim to help them see better could be essential.
Really excited to learn about this breed, they are so different from any other we have.
Thank you

A single polish may become a pecking target due to their crests and different behaviors, so watch out for any signs of problems.
We have had that problem with our Polish roo and the biggest offenders were bully roos and our 2 large Jersey Giant hens!! Our Polish Roo is so friendly and great with the hens!! He has held his own in the coop and is now working as a single roo with 23 hens! He is our only Polish so we purchased 8 baby Polish chicks yesterday ( Blues and Golden Laced) and hope there is another roo in the mix because Poli has a rough time keeping all 23 hens in line. We shall see! 0606180724a.jpg 0423181544d.jpg 0423181545.jpg 0606180724_HDR.jpg
