Does anyone else have really DUMB guineas?

I swear they're smart when they need to be.

My chickens are definitely smarter than my guineas.

My two females seem a lot more dumb than my two boys. One of the girls tried to run away once and got lost in the woods behind my house. Both the boys went after her, rounded her up, and brought her back to the coop.

The boys are just very loud. Every time my dog goes outside they go nuts and won't shut up. Very annoying.

They can definitely be loud and annoying.

I suppose it all depends on genetics. I found a good breeder who raised guineas for temperament and flock guardians(he made sure the guineas where never inbred and always added in new blood) but ones that I got from the feed store (they get them from a hatchery) tended to be real stupid.

I have had some dumb ones, they generally get the Darwin award in due time...

I lost two younger ones about half grown this year when they forced their way inside the 4" PVC elbow on my no mess feeder and got stuck, what drove them to think that slithering inside a pipe was a good idea is beyond me...

Where do you guys generally get your guineas from? Hatcheries? Breeders? I think the intellect level depends on how they were bred because my guineas outwitted the chickens and the dog.

My whites and lavenders are young yet, only 5 months old. They're hatchery. My pearls and pieds are family bred for 15+ years and they're smarter than most dogs. They're not on this property, though,they're on our other property. Live or die with them.
