I've been told hatching by the almanac makes for better hatches, larger, healthier chicks and the pullets lay better. Is it factual or a old wives tale? I'm putting in 3 eggs on the 21st so they'll hatch between 3-12& 3-14. According to this years addition this is the optimal time for March. Showing off my newest hatch.

Well All I can say is I hatched steady for 17 months---way more that 6000 chicks----chicks hatching every week---200 to 300 some week. I kept some from different weeks---they lay great, sold the rest. This is my first hearing about the Almanac concerning chicks----but I like the almanac for garden planting.

I read about that this winter and checked back on my hatches last spring & summer. The one that was set by the almanac was the best hatch of the season. I've mapped out the dates for this spring and will be trying it. I'll be hatching on other dates also. So at the end of the season I'll be able to compare the hatches.

Highest hatch rate and largest chicks weight wise.

Well I do not know----I hatched chicks every week for 17 months and had about the highest hatch rate you can have---so if they were set at the right time by the almanac or not---it did not matter because I got 95 to 100% hatch rate every week.

Shoot have to delay incubation. Had a superise chick shipment. ( I lost some birds to predators) so a family member bought me 25 pullets.
That gives me close to 50 chickens. So until I sell some birds I'm just going to follow you all hatches.
