I am raising them from eggs for the first time. Id like some idea of the sex as soon as possible. I just lost my female last night. Poor thing I think she was stressed by the male. I got them as a pair last Fall and am hoping to get more than one female. Until then I have to let my surviving male stay alone. Im not going to chance him killing or contributing to the death of any of these hand-raised ones.'

Alos, my oldest baby is about 3 weeks. The wing feathers have white feather coloring near the body. It is strange and Im wondering if this is a clue to the sex or maybe a clue that these coturnix are a mix of breeds. Or is this normal. Again, first time doing this.'

Presumably they're just a mix of different colours. What colour were the parents?

And here is a thread on how to sex quail: link. Though I'm told it's generally easier to wait until they either crow or lay.
