Does anyone have ducks that lay in the winter?

My Pekins started laying last October and have not stopped yet. They laid all winter - even in -20 weather - I had lots of frozen eggs!

Wow! Thank you for all the replies. Everyone here is very helpful. It sounds like having a light out there won't hurt. Can they still go outside with a light on only in the coop? Or do I need to lock them in? Thank you! Thank you! I am so excited now.

To supplement our egg production, I got a quad of quail. They lay like mad too. I am also allergic to chicken eggs, but have no problem with quail and duck eggs.

I never thought about quail. Great idea! I think my husband would go crazy if I tried quail this year. I'm trying to break him in slowly.

Something else to remember is that eggs do keep for a quite a while if stored properly. So even if your ducks took a month or two off, I think you would still be able to have eggs, if you have more than one bird.

I would allow the birds as much fresh air as possible, as long as they are protected from predators. If they are outside, they are, in many if not most cases, getting much more light than they could indoors. Even a dark and cloudy day at about 2000 lux) is much brigher than indoor lighting (a few hundred lux), generally speaking.

I did not give mine any extra light other than a red light that was left on inside the coop.
