I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this. We have heard that ducks are excellent at eating weeds. I'm wondering if they discriminate between weeds and vegetables. If so do they eat some vegetables. I would hate to put them in the garden and have them eat some veggies after they start producing. If anyone is knowledgeable please let me know.

Thanks Peep

Lots of folks have ducks - you're just in the wrong section...

Some hatcheries sell "Weeder geese" I bet someone knows more on that.

I haven't had my ducks long enough to see how they handle my veggie garden, they'll probably eat everything.

This is the wrong section. Your looking for Waterfowl - Ducks, Geese, Swan, etc. Check the index.
I have ducks though, so i will answer. My Duck DO NOT discriminate with beans. They ate all my beans this year. They don't seem to like squash, okra, tomatoes, or bell peppers though.

Geese are better at weeding than the ducks are. My goose roams around to everyone's gardens and weeds then, NEVER eats the good stuff, just the weeds. On Top of that she is an excellent guard "dog". My ducks don't really eat any weeds...

I have 4 white pekins . In my experience, they do not discriminate. Over the summer, I lost my onions, radishes, carrot tops, flowers in one bed, and lettuce. They didn't seem to care for the tomatoes or green peppers. I don't know if it is the taste, or that they plants were tall...I think that it was because of the height of the plants...but that's my opinion of my particular ducks. On the plus side, the bugs were hardly noticeable.
