Does anyone have pics of Martha Stewart's coop?

Whispering Winds: Can't take credit...the budget magazine was Sparkles idea...I just made the sarcastic remark about hiring chickens

And I have never read the Erma Bombeck letter before, thanks for the suggestion! To anyone else who hasn't read it... here it is...

Martha Stewart's Christmas letter to Erma Bombeck:

Hi Erma,

This perfectly delightful note is being sent on paper I made myself to tell you what I have been up to.

Since it snowed last night, I got up early and made a sled with old barn wood and a glue gun. I hand painted it in gold leaf, got out my loom, and made a blanket in peaches and mauves. Then to make the sled complete, I made a white horse to pull it, from DNA that I had just sitting around in my craft room.

By then, it was time to start making the place mats and napkins for my 20 breakfast guests. I'm serving the old standard Stewart twelve-course breakfast, but I'll let you in on a little secret: I didn't have time to make the tables and chairs this morning, so I used the ones I had on hand. Before I moved the table into the dining room, I decided to add just a touch of the holidays. So I repainted the room in pinks and stenciled gold stars on the ceiling. Then, while the homemade bread was rising, I took antique candle molds and made the dishes (exactly the same shade of pink) to use for breakfast. These were made from Hungarian clay, which you can get at almost any Hungarian craft store.

Well, I must run. I need to finish the buttonholes on the dress I'm wearing for breakfast. I'll get out the sled and drive this note to the post office as soon as the glue dries on the envelope I'll be making. Hope my breakfast guests don't stay too long, I have 40,000 cranberries to string with bay leaves before my speaking engagement at noon. It's a good thing.

Love, Martha Stewart

P.S. When I made the ribbon for this typewriter, I used 1/8-inch gold gauze. I soaked the gauze in a mixture of white grapes and blackberries, which I grew, picked, and crushed last week just for fun.

Erma Bombeck's Christmas letter to Martha Stewart:

Dear Martha,

I'm writing this on the back of an old shopping list, pay no attention to the coffee and jelly stains. I'm 20 minutes late getting my daughter up for school, packing a lunch with one hand, on the phone with the dog pound, seems old Ruff needs bailing out, again.

Burnt my arm on the curling iron when I was trying to make those cute curly fries, how DO they do that?

Still can't find the scissors to cut out some snowflakes, tried using an old disposable razor ... trashed the tablecloth. Tried that cranberry thing, frozen cranberries mushed up after I defrosted them in the microwave.

Oh, and don't use Fruity Pebbles as a substitute in that Rice Krispie snowball recipe, unless you happen to like a disgusting shade that resembles puke!

The smoke alarm is going off, talk to ya later.

Love, Erma

That's way too funny. I used to love Erma. A down to earth Martha, to some extent.

I too admire Martha for what she has accomplished 'BUT' I do not like her condescending nature she has towards many of the guests on her show. When she first got out of prison and Mark Burnett backed her show, Martha was alot more humble and kind. It didn't take her long to fall back into her old ways. I guess to a certain extent she has to be the way she is to get to where she wants to be. However there is alot to be said for a person in her position who treats everyone equally and with respect despite their goals for wealth and success. She could take a few lessons from the Gates'.

I watched the video from juliect and wow nice how she talks to the chickens too! excellent.
I too am still fond of martha stewart: when she was locked up (you know where) she was making knitted shawls, her and the other prisioners, well, i bought one, bought it online for like 38.00 or so, and ya know what, its so pretty, some of the money was donated to some cause (not sure what).
I dont watch her show tho, i liked the old martha stewart living show (what ever that was called, cant remember) anyways thanks for sharing the video!

I suspect that's a result of being wealthy enough to let others do your research and planning for you. ("Just build me some safe yards; don't bother me with details.") Neither attacking or defending her on this, just noting a possible cause and result.

Hopefully, she will do more good by raising chickens and gardening, than harm with such choices. We shall see.

Personally, I find her incredibly annoying, and her products/brands/whatever, obnoxious. (Have you been in a KMart lately? Check out her household products.)

As for the insider trading, give me a break, happens thousands of times a day. Prison was absurd. Sentence her to 9 months of teaching home ec, or working with the poor who need training in such matters, or something.... make use of her, community service; no sense in confinement, she is not a rapist or armed robber.... Confinement for this sort of crime does nothing to protect society, it is simple revenge, and IMHO, should be reserved for those from whom we need protection.

We had a local MD who was imprisoned in a federal prison for a couple of years or so, and forced to pay for that confinement. I do hope she had to, as well, since confinement was evidently the best they could do. I would rather have seen him manning a garbage truck for a few years, or something, though.

I love Martha. Srsly.

I would only hope to do as well with the cards she was dealt.

I am happy with my life and I wouldn't change it for anything but she had a tough row to how.

Good on her. I think the stock situation was a bunch of carp.

I don't agree with everything Martha. I had house rabbits and the vet she had on her show for exotics was an idiot.

I don't think anyone can be wonderful at everything but I like the hell out of what she has done for herself.
