Does anyone have Rotts or Mastiffs?

It all depends on the training. As long as the dog is trained from puppyhood to stay away from the birds, they should be fine. That's not to say they won't get sneaky and wait until your back is turned, but with firm, consistent training they should behave themselves.

I would get a Mastiff or a Rottie but not the mix pup. Too many mix with Mastiff to get a giant "whatever" and all they do is make all the wonderful attributes dilute and unstable!
Let someone without kids or chickens get those rottie/mastiff puppies!
I have 1 Mastiff and he is wonderful! With my chicks and cats and other dogs!
My sister has 5 Mastiffs and 3 wouldn't bother at all, 1 would do her best to eat every chicken she sees (cats too) and the last one would be (is) terrified by the chix!
I'm sorry about not going with the mixed pup, but too much has happened with the mixes like the "American Mastiff" and most of the "grass roots" (American Mastiff) breeders have been sued and the unstable dogs are one by one euthanised after they maul a little girl or worse yet are just so unstable that from day to day they can be wonderful or terrors.
Be very careful and very thoughtful in your choice.
Good Luck

ps ~~of course training is very important but if you have crossed wires your gonna get shocked!
