Does anyone know about Dominiques?!?! at all? a little?

Well it seems i have fallen in love with a beautiful mixed bird who is mostly Dominique, (as well as red b.b.,black sumatra, and white orpington) Two of those breeds (B.B-Sumatra) im experienced with,
but the rest....

when i went to my Dad's friend's to see his about some hens, i never thought i'd find a gorgous rooster in a small battery cage in the back of the chicken's house-but when i picked him up and held him eye to eye with me, it was as if he was saying "you know im the right one, now get me outta here!".

he is set to be in the fryer by next week, soon after, my fathers friend said i could have him (if i get to him before the guy that wants to eat him) so withen days (and with no real forethought) a mansion of a pen was constructed. And now i come to realized i dont know a thing about him or his breed.

So my qeustions are;
*what is the temperment of a mature Dominique?
*How are they with smaller chickens?
*any specific medical conditions to the breed?
*will he be o.k in a nice big pen by himself?
*is there anything to know before bringing him home?

Im not quite sure as to health problems and all that hoo-lah, but i know that my grandfathers Dominiques were very, VERY flighty. I dont know, maybe they were an exception....but i cant only tell you what i've experienced.

thats what i was afraid of, when i held him there was alot going on around us, if he is aggressive or flighty he was too distracted by his surroundings to react.

I love Doms! The hens are nosey and bossy and make good mothers! They put on good weight and are easy keepers as far as general health goes. My grandmother raised them and I have had a few myself over the years. Never had an issue with them being "flighty" at all. Of course, I feel most chickens are flighty under normal circumstances. Hence the derogatory name "chicken!" yelled at folks who scare easily!

Congrats on your new roo! I read alot about Dominiques before I got mine, they are very similiar to the barred rocks. I think you will be really happy with your new roo. My Dominique chicks are just over a month old but I can't wait until my rooster starts crowing.
