Does Anyone know of a good Blend of Feed Grass for Laying Hens ?
hmm.png

I have the unique opportunity to establish a New feeding area for the Hens

This past summer & fall I cut & cleared an acre of woods from our property for a larger area for that purpose .

BUT !

Issue # 1 What type of feed grass will provide the most benefit for my Hens.
Issue # 2 We Live in Maine.
Issue # 3 Do I Need perennial seed ? ? ?

Maintenance should not an issue,as it is located toward the back portion of the property. ( Im not planning on mowing it ? )
Gets full sun most of the spring, all summer & most of the fall.

We have over two feet of snow on the ground as of today.

I have a little time to acquire the proper seed & get it planted.

Anyone have any Favorites as far as a Good All around Feed Grass seed or maybe a Blend ?

Advice Please & Thank You.

Your best bet is to contact your county extension office and get direction from them. What's best for me isn't best for you. The variety of crops that will do best will be dependent on a combination of soil type, annual rainfall and temps as well as how it will be used.

Yes you want a perennial or you will be reseeding every year. It will take a good year to become established but once you do it, you're done for a while.
