Yes, I could find this info. on the web or hop on over to the easy garden site, but I'm feeling lazy this morning.

DSD would like to try and grow a forsythia bush from the one her grandma planted that's growing in our backyard. This bush was massive, but DH cut it way back.
How would I go about rooting a piece for her?
TIA

those are pretty easy to start

the best way would be to take a cutting about 6 inches long, put rooting hormone on the bottom inch of it and put it in a pot with moist potting soil.

the other option, cut a couple of branches off and stick them in the ground... sometimes they grow

final option, take a long branch that is still attached to the bush, scrape back the top layer of bark on one side for about an inch, bend the branch over next to the ground and bury it in the dirt. Wait a couple of month and go back, cut the branch from the bush at the bush side and dig it up. It should have rooted.

Gritsar,

Here's a video about it. Kinda good for a silly chuckle.

Dizzy is a normal state for me, so no worries.

I've always had good luck just taking a cutting branch and putting it in root compound. Early Spring is best when the buds are just starting. Then sticking it in the garden where I want it to grow, a nice damp soil does the trick. When it has good roots I place it in a yard spot permanently.

Your forsythia may be better behaved than mine, but mine has a number of "volunteers" clustered around it. They may be considered suckers. Anyway, you may be able to scout around your plant and find one of those for her, they will already be rooted and ready to go at that point.
