So I noticed that my 8 year old Old English Game Bantam Hen was straining, she wouldn’t eat and was standing in the corner. So we took her inside and gave her an epsom salt bath, she acted better again after pooping a little. So I thought it wasn’t anything to worry about and that she was fine. Then the next day I found her in the corner again so I gave her an epsom salt bath again, and stayed up until really late. She acted a tad bit better but I put her in an animal crate just in case. Today I noticed that she was straining a lot so I took her inside and noticed that she had the tip of a rubber egg sticking out of her vent. So I quickly put on gloves, then I slowly and gently pulled the rubber egg out. This is what I found inside. Then inside of the red thing was a yolk. The red thing was like a casing to hold the yolk. Is it a tumor, if not then what is it? How do I treat it?

I’m really sorry about how your hen is! It might be a lash egg? Your hen is really old and has some reproductive issues clearly, so it may be the end of the tunnel for her sadly. Unfortunately, when it’s a reproductive issue it is very hard to treat. I hope for the best for your hen. Could you take her to the vet?

You said it right. "The red thing was like a casing holding the yolk". To me that looks like an intact follicle which holds the yolk (ovum). Instead of it splitting along the Stigma and the yolk being released, the whole thing was released instead.
At her age, I would say it's a reproductive glitch. It's good that you were able to get it out.
Was the egg "whole" when you pulled it out or did any of the contents spill into the oviduct?
Is she perked up after she laid this?

The whole video is interesting to watch, but if you want to skip a bit, go to about the 2 minute mark and start there, watch how a yolk is released, I think it may give you a better idea of what that is.
Just my 2¢

Unfortunately I can’t afford a vet. She seems to be back to her usual self now so I am hoping that she continues to act normal.

Thank you for sharing that amazing video with me, it’s really fascinating. I did see some albumen at first but I gave her an epsom salt bath and she released it all. After I got the egg out she went back to normal like it never happened.
