So far, everone I spoke to has milking equipment for their dairy goats. Do any of you goat people out there milk yours the old-fashioned way? (Perhaps someone who only has 1 or 2, for family use only)

Well when my 4 year old was a baby she was allergic to cows milk and I was breast feeding so I had to stop drinking cows milk and I had to drink goats milk from the store and it tasted like a goat smells. It wasn't rotten or anything but I didn't like it. Does fresh goat milk taste like that?

From what I understand, store bought goats' milk tastes "goaty", because it's pasteurized. Untreated goats' milk does not have that strong taste.

I hand milk my Nigis, twice a day

I say why buy a machine, when God gave me two?

As MP said - fresh, properly handled goats milk has no off taste or smell. If anything, it's sweeter than cow's milk. I've had the store bought stuff and it is NASTY.

How long does it take you to milk one? And how much milk a day, on average, do you get from one goat?
