Does anyone on BYC raise silkies

Because i would love to add some silkies to my flock but i dont want to get anymore roosters and i would only want 5 mabey is thier any breeders on BYC that would sell me some silkie chicks and ship them to the Oklahoma Panhandle but i would want only pullets and no more than 5 sorry if thats to picky just wondering if this is posible if it is please reply to the post and list prices and colours and if the prices arent insane i might buy some

Many, many people on here raise silkies! I only have a couple. I would suggest you look on the breeders list, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=246596

There are some other people not listed there. Some of them ship birds, and might be able to ship you some hens.

Please understand that Silkies are very, very difficult to accurately sex as chicks - even the expert breeders I know won't guarantee the sex of a bird - it may take several months before you can tell, so you probably won't find young pullets, even from expert breeders. If you can only have females you may have to buy older birds.

On another note, it's good to see someone else from the Oklahoma Panhandle on BYC! I am originally from out there - I have family in Beaver, Forgan, Hooker, Goodwell and Texhoma, and I graduated from Tyrone.

My pet chicken sells day old silkie chicks sexed and you can get as few as three.

I raise Bearded Splash Silkies for show, but they refuse to reproduce. I have not gotten 1 chick from them this year.

The higher the quality the less they reproduce, or so I have heard (and experienced). Waste of feed in my opinion. I do have 5 whites and a pretty partridge chick I hatched from eggs I bought (yes, shipped eggs!) from cj's Silkies in PA. They will be up for sale in a few months. When it is too hot to ship, wouldn't ya know it. I will be able to ship in Sept.
