Back story -This is my second batch of silkies, both are from same breeder. She keeps multiple mixed colored silkie flocks. First batch of chics I got didn't change color except for the splash chicks which started out white. For the others, their down was replaced with same color adult feathers only more defined or darker.

Now several chicks in new batch I question the color on but statix coloring can't make heads or tails of. He was multi hued from dark gray to silver down with yellow tinged on ends of said down with it being more concentrated around head, feet and the tips of his wings reminding me of those fiber optic lamps . I don't know what he is growing into but now he's getting white in almost identical patterns on both sides of his body. Im Including pics of age progress from few days old to going on 4 weeks. I'm hoping someone here has seen this before and can tell me what color he is turning to. Google said splash but every splash I've ever seen started out white. His white on dark gray makes me think of those gray with white cockatiels that has a yellow head. only statix's yellow has been lightening to unidentifiable color.

It looks like it maybe a silver Columbian, with blue.

To me it looks like a blue or lavendar splash. Have you asked the breeder if any that wound up being splashes were gray as chicks rather than white?

Mine change so much so it's really hard to tell until they're at least a month old, and even then, some have changed a month or two later. I just was out in my growout pen inspecting them and dropped my jaw to realize I have a cuckoo partridge about 3 months old, the lemon chick that turned white, is back to lemon again, and a silver chick will be a moorhead. None of these did I expect! I hope rooster for the latter as I need one!

No I haven't, but I guess I should give it a try. she had only ever said that the white chicks are more likely to be splash than actually stay white and that any black colored chicks will be true black, not dark blue. I had asked her about colors in the past but learned she wasn't great at identifying the color of chicken by known labels such as buff for example. Like all the splash in this last batch, she had said would grow to be red splashed (Red Pyle) but they look regular splash with dark blue and black coming in. That was also when she told me she hatches colors that no one has ever seen before. I had thought that last part was a boast but I'm starting to believe her. Honestly this last batch seems to be a lower quality of silkie (vulchers hocks) but she is the only breeder I've found near me.
