I have only just reached the grand total of 6 chooks and they are a joy to me - though of course it is does involve work to keep them happy. But that's the joy of pet ownership.
Sometimes the poop on the back deck and stairs gets on my nerves.
But then having to scoop up the dogs poo around the back yard gets on my nerves too and I love him no less.
At the moment I get eggs from no-one- so the joy of having my own back yard eggs is far from a reality. But as I remind DH - they are my pets. The budgies don't give us anything either and we love them.
I suppose it's your expectation of what you want from having them.
