Does anyone use group nest boxes?

You know, when it is just an open area of hay/straw for everyone? Does anyone use them? Pros? Cons? Advice?

My neighbor thru the block does. Just one big box for one and all to lay in. It seems to work just fine for her. I don't know why more folks do not use them. Perhaps broody hens, or such… I am not sure. Makes for an easy and quick way to collect the eggs for sure.

I converted a large plastic storage box into a nest box. I think I'll make one or two more but so far everyone uses the same one.

BTW: The box is filled with sand to give the eggs a nice soft place to land when they are laid and just enough pine bedding on top to give the hens something to move around while getting settled. Works well.
