....Know the laws for keeping chickens in Kannapolis, NC I have been looking on the internet for a while now and still can't find anything that isnt recent. I live in rowan/cabarrus county any information will be helpfull.

Hey neighbor - just up the road from you in Hickory. Trying going to www.municode.com I was able to pull up Kannapolis Municiple codes there. I didn't find any codes that referenced chickens specifically, but I just did a quick glance. Which could be a good thing since if it doesn't specifially say you can't then you can! Good luck and hope that site helps.

Hi there.... I too am in Kannapolis, NC (well at least my address is) I pay Cabarrus County Taxes and City of Concord taxes... so really Im confused on whose laws to follow (Kannapolis, or Concord)..... but anyhow... I live in a development and was wondering if you have found anything out about having chickens..... We were talked into having 2 chicks back in March and grown to love them as pets..... It has gotten to the point that we cant keep them a secret any longer. We have the worst lot to try and hide them. ( A school bus stop next to our fence, houses that sit higher than ours and can over look our backyard, etc.) My daughter told me this morning that the kids up in our culdesac now know we have them, and Im scared they will blab. There is someone up in the culdesac that is on the HOA board that is friends with their parents. Have you found the laws in having chickens? Thanks.

"Horses, Cows, Chickens and other Livestock
No livestock are allowed within any Residential Zoning District (with the exception of the AG Agricultural District) on any lot less than two (2) acres in size. Certain livestock are allowed on lots exceeding two (2) acres in size, provided the livestock are fenced and no closer than one hundred fifty feet (150') from a dwelling unit."

I found this here:
http://www.cityofkannapolis.com/dept_pz_code_enforcement.asp

http://www.kannapolisnc.gov/GovernmentDepartments/Planning/CodeEnforcement/tabid/221/Default.aspx

Not sure if they have updated it since last posts but according to code...

"Chickens are not considered to be livestock and are allowed."
