what was the result? did they stop pecking him? Im having the same problem

Im wondering what you did to stop your hens from pecking your Roo? Im having this issue right now
Blue-Kote is not to prevent picking. As stated above, it's more for wound care. Feather picking can be due to many factors, one being crowded conditions. How many chickens do you have in what sized space?

As soon as we had time to just enjoy watching our flock play around, we noticed without a doubt the pecker. She was introduced to the noodle pot and went down just fine. RESULTS - finally after several months our rooster "Big Bad John" grew his fabulous iridescent blue/green tail feathers back. We started putting scat down for the flock and now we have so many sparrows it's like the Hickock move "The Birds" When we go in the coop they fly at us and I am sure they are eating feed. We stopped the scat and put out a sparrow trap, no luck yet. Can anyone tell us how big the entrance for our chickens needs to be?? We want to reduce the opening so the sparrows don't fly in.

Nope none of that junk works for pecking feathers. You gotta find the culprit & rearrange your pecking order. Isolate them one at a time to fixes the problem. I had this problem for over a year & ended up killing my Roo he would pick their feathers & feed them back to the girls. The flock caught on & everybody was pecking each other. It was a freaking nightmare. I also increased their protein intake to help grow their feathers back. But don't overdue the protein. I fixed the flock but its a tough battle.
That is so invasive. This is my 2nd year with animals and it definitely can be a struggle. I removed my hen whose neck was bleeding as I think it got it caught on something somewhere or from over mating. No other hens have any issues on their necks so I am leaning towards another injury. So I removed her to clean her and spray antiseptic (not blu-cote as I just heard of it) I place my hen in the baby turkeys coop one night and bit in the morning. Had to let her out as all the baby turkeys were peeking at her neck. They were like vultures. So frustrating. My friend said last night to get blu-cote and not keep her away from the flock too long as she will have to reestablish her pecking order which will leave her vulnerable of getting hanged up on. We have a few extra roosters we will be culling soon, we are just trying to figure out who the best is to keep. This life is really a guessing game.
