Not sure if I phrased my subject line accurately. If I had day-old chicks completely separated from my small flock of hens while they grow into pullets (observing best biosecurity that I can), would this serve as a de facto quarantine period? Would I need to let my chicks grow up and THEN begin the true quarantine process as pullets? Does disease presentation vary depending upon chicks vs pullets vs adults?

I don't have the proposed chicks right now, just looking at timelines, seasonal considerations, setup, logistics, etc. Also pondering "youngster-to-oldster" introduction considerations. My current flock of (only) 3 consists of an 8 y.o. Ameraucauna hen, a 7 y.o. Dominique hen, and a 4 y.o. BA hen. Thanks for info!

Yes, grow out time counts as quarantine time. You will need to do an additional look-don't-touch period if that is how you're incorporating.

Thanks, all. Yes I would plan to do the 'look don't touch' period as well. It has been 11 years since I've raised day-old chicks, so not sure yet if I will go that route.
