Does chickens need extra grit if???

Does chickens need extra grit if under there pine bedding is nothing but Florida sand?? They are always pecking it the sand when scratching.. Thanks for any and all responses..

Extra grit would probably not be necessary, however, we add crushed oyster shells to provide plenty of calcium for egg production. Those shells might be easier for you to obtain than for us here in KY!

Being a Florida native I think most of the sand is crushed oyster shell, especially if it was brought in to your yard during construction. I doubt if they will need anything else.
 
Oyster shell is not a substitue for grit and grit is not a substitute for oyster shell.
